"...וכך נעלמתי בתוך הקהל הרב הזה במחנה הריכוז. עדיין התיראתי שיכירוני ויידעו שאני הוא שברחתי מאותה צעדה. הבריחה ממחנה ריכוז זה לא היתה קשה ביותר, לא היתה בכך בעיה למי שרצה לברוח. הבעיה היחידה היתה שאם ברח אדם ממחנה ריכוז זה, היו יורים ב-10 אנשים מקבוצת האיש הזה בתוך המחנה, והיו מביאים את כל בני משפחתו אל המחנה ותולים אותם. ובאותה תקופה עדין היו משפחות לרוב רובנו, משפחות בעיר."

And so I vanished into the big crowd in the concentration camp. I was still afraid to be recognized as the one who escaped from that march. Escaping from the concentration camp was not difficult. Whoever wished to run awy could easily do it. The only problem was that if someone escaped from there, they would shoot ten people from that person's squad in the camp. And they would bring all the members of his family and hang them. And at that time most of us still had families in town.

"קשה להעלות זאת בדמיון איך ב-22 לספטמבר של שנת 1942 נאספו כל יהודי העיירה שנותרו, כאלף נפש, גברים, נשים, זקנים וילדים, ליד הבורות שנחפרו מבעוד מועד באזור סוואטי. הם נדרשו להתפשט, להיכנס לתוך הבורות ולשכב בהם צפופים זה ליד זה, שכבה על שכבה ב-8 שכבות, ולהיקבר חיים לאחר שכיסו את כולם באדמה. אנשי היודנרט אולצו למיין את בגדי הנרצחים ולחשוף דברי ערך וזהב, ובסיום לסחוב את השקים על גבם לעיירה. לאחר מכן הוחזרו למקום הרצח ונורו."

It is difficult to imagine how on Sept. 22, 1942 all the remaining Jews of the stetl, about 1000 men, women, old people and children, were assembled near the pits that were prepared in advance in the Swati area, were ordered to undress, to enter the pits and to lie down there close to each other, one layer of people on the other, eight layers all in all, and to be buried alive after they were covered with dirt. The members of the Judenrat were forced to sort out the clothes of the murdered people and to fish out valuables and gold. At the end they had to carry the sacks on their backs to the stetl. Then they were brought back to the killing ground and shot.
